Bakemonogatari puella crossover movie1/31/2024 ![]() ![]() Because we're talking about Homura here, who hit the Reset Button which gave fans exactly what they needed but never knew they wanted, new prescriptions for anti-depressants in the best way possible.īecause one should actually expect HOMURA AKEMI to serve and complete her predestined character role in the series in a way that makes everyone including herself unhappy and not try to prevent yet another bittersweet Pyrrhic Victory which throws the doors open for a never-ending cyclical narrative where Studio SHAFT will continue to milk this criminally beautiful Springtime for Hitler just so the newest installment of Monogatari can look like it was made by MC Escher and Koji Yamamura, am I right? No, that would be far too ironic, even for this series. But for me, everything wrong with it is what makes it right. This movie has no fucking right to exist. A dream where she unwittingly became the very being she had spent all that time fighting against and placed her friends inside a metaphysical retelling of the Nutcracker Ballet that pretty much screams, "Shaft is making their own Princess Tutu/End of Evangelion crossover!" Thanks, Kyubey (yes, in case you were wondering, this is all his fault once again). Things you don't understand, that shouldn't be real, that would never be real.unless the dream was actually a pocket universe created by a 14 year old lesbian who ultimately despaired after 12 years of repeating the same month and a half of her life just to save her adorable pink-haired magical girl Jesus and eternal emotional crutch only for her to be out of her reach forever. Whatever you want to call it, any superficial and comparative descriptions simply won't do it enough justice. It is simultaneously both Homura's coming out story and fall from grace.Īnd lastly, Rebellion is a narrative Kubrick, Bergman, Lynch, Hoffman and Tchaikovsky can only DREAM that they could have made themselves. It is this franchise's Adolescence of Utena or End of Evangelion. It is the anime version of Plato's Allegory of the Cave, the magical girl genre's take on the Matrix or Dark City, the lesbian version of Faust Part II and Revenge of the Sith. This film is like a dream, both metaphorically and literally. Because every viewing brings a new perspective, new emotions.and feels like the first time all over again. Seeing this film was literally the greatest experience I've ever had in my entire life.and I have watched this film a total of 16 times now because of it. Rebellion destroyed my mind and my soul in a single viewing, only to completely reconstruct them in ways that are utterly impossible to communicate to those who have never seen it themselves. I am genuinely not exaggerating in saying this. There are only two other films that have emotionally and mentally shattered me (and these are not mutually exclusive) more than Puella Magi Madoka Magica Rebellion: Naoko Yamada's Liz and the Blue Bird and Lars von Trier's Dancer in the Dark. And, to put it bluntly, it's unlikely that I've ever loved anything in the material world more than this film. And it is because of the sheer magnitude of its convoluted yet cohesive, ugly yet beautiful, soul-crushing yet life-affirming and rejuvenating narrative, that it is my favorite piece of cinema ever made. ![]() Show casual viewers of anime and newcomers to the series who are the most seasoned of film buffs what the medium is capable of, and the sheer volume of the film's contents will surely inspire them to fervently delve into the television series and/or compilation films if they have not done so already.or utterly baffle and exhaust them to the point of indifference.įrom what I have observed, this film is divisive to everyone who watches it at its core. Enthrall and compel the series detractors and non-believers to question why they ever doubted Gen Urobuchi's brutally honest yet sensitive portrayal of depression and the human condition when pushed to its limits, potentially making even the most initially indifferent viewers of Madoka Magica the most diehard of fans. Delight and inspire a cavalcade of emotions and thoughts toward its narrative and characters that longtime Madoka Magica fans will not be able to stop thinking about for months after viewing it, or be utterly reviled by them due to it seemingly attempting to destroy everything the original series set out to accomplish and containing a mean-spirited plot twist during the last twenty minutes that basically decimates all of their initial preconceptions and admiration toward the true protagonist of the Madoka narrative, Homura Akemi. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part III: Rebellion is a nearly two hour cinematic spectacle that will either: ![]()
