University of tulsa cyber espionage1/27/2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() It aims for investment and economic growth in several clusters, collectively called Tulsa’s Tech Niche: Virtual health, energy tech, advanced air mobility, analytics, and cyber. ![]() The new institute is intended to complement the city of Tulsa’s strategy for stimulating tech-led economic growth, an initiative of Tulsa Innovation Labs, which was also supported by the George Kaiser Family Foundation. Cyber espionage is primarily used as a means to gather sensitive or classified data, trade secrets or other forms of IP that can be used by the aggressor to create a competitive advantage or sold for financial gain. The University of Tulsa has convened stakeholders in federal and state government, industry and philanthropy to position the institute as a force for Tulsa’s economic growth well into the future.” “To be globally competitive in an industry like cyber, it is critical that public and private actors come together to research, develop and commercialize cutting-edge technologies. The creation of OCII is a logical next step in solidifying Tulsa’s leadership in the cybersecurity sector,” said Ken Levit, executive director of the George Kaiser Family Foundation. “Because of the University of Tulsa’s strength in cybersecurity, this industry is an area where Tulsa can not only grow but lead. And in 2021, it launched the School of Cyber Studies that includes the university’s undergraduate and graduate cyber degree programs and fosters collaboration between faculty in science, business, law, policy and ethics. TU recently partnered with the George Kaiser Family Foundation and Tulsa Innovation Labs to create a doctoral student initiative known as Cyber Fellows that’s focused on industrial applications in cyber. Project objective and amount requested: Protecting the Idaho economy from damages caused by cyber espionage and extortion, security breaches, or other targeted. Its Cyber Corps program prepares experts to defend against hackers, and other national security threats. The university is also home to a National Computer Forensics Institute lab, a federally funded center that trains law enforcement in cybercrime investigations. ![]()
